Are you designer, student, consultant or just a cycle freak? Maybe your idea can change Seoul to a more cycle friendly city. And you make chance to win a nice price… The competition is open to applicants from every country in the world.
“Once considered a ‘hard’ city, Seoul is making strides toward becoming a ‘soft’city. Seoul is about to be reborn as a soft city by embracing design concepts that will redefine its urban environment with an emphasis on themes centering on green, blue, history and human. The Seoul Cycle Design Competition will be held under the theme, ‘cycling with design: seoul style,’ and is part of Seoul’s city-wide effort at improving its design brand and image. the primary goal of the competition is to help build a design orientedcity that focuses on its people. the competition is divided into three categories: cycle design, cycle fashion & accessories design, and cycling infrastructure. all three categories emphasize environment-friendly ideas, with the hope that the contest will contribute to establishing a healthiercycling culture. Cycles have become an icon of ‘eco-friendliness’ and ‘healthiness,’ and are part of a major urban lifestyle trend. Nearly everyone can enjoy riding cycles; therefore, just about everyone will be able to enter the competition. Through this competition we hope that all citizens will have the chance to share their own personal visions for a new Seoul, a city that has embraced change through design. We invite everyone who is interested in cycling and design to take part in the Seoul Cycle Design Competition.”

Beauty and the Bike

Just discovered a interesting ‘Cycle Chic’ project in Darlington (UK) / Bremen (Germany): Beauty and the Bike. It’s a really good example that shows the importance of bicycle infrastructure.
“Between summer 2008 and 2009, Beauty and the Bike documents the differences between travel customs in Bremen and Darlington, with the aim to produce a 40 minute film, a photo exhibition and a catalogue. Girls and young women between 10 and 25 from each place are invited to participate. They will work with the film crew and two photographers, aiming for the development of self portraits to show their own view of mobility, coolness and fun. We want them to show how they get around in town, how they want to be seen, and how they can or could realize cool transport on a bike, how much fun they have when they cycle, and how liberating a means of transport can be that allows the girls to be mobile without public transport or their parents’ cars.”

Dior goes cycle chic
Posted by Bram | Filed under marketing
We like the commercial for Dior’s perfume Miss Dior Chérie. For one reason only, and that is that it’s directed by Sofia Coppola. If you’ve seen Lost in Translation, The Virgin Suicides or Marie Antoinette, then you know she creates a dreamy, soft and fairytale atmosphere.
This is what we are talking about, cycle chic already included:
That is why we like Dior. And Dior does it again with this new print ad for Miss Dior Chérie. They use the pink coat to get attention. The bike and the white door on the background gives the ad a real ‘chic’ touch. I really like it, even without smelling their perfume.

This stylish mother and son or daughter (?) really likes cycling and they have a good taste! Look at the colors: green cargo bike and a green mini bike for her child… Isn’t it a cute picture?
