Sleepstreet + Jan Hoet + A.F. Vandevorst

A new wind is blowing through the city of Ghent

Last Thursday I witnessed a special event: the launch of “Sleepstreet bicycles“, a new brand of Belgian custom made bicycles. Sleepstreet cycles is founded by some inspiring guys of a Belgian advertising company. Their concept is a perfect combination of style, personal identity and the growing interest for cycling, especially in the city of Ghent. Have a look on their nicely designed website: http://sleepstreetcycles.com/ Ending with their own words: “Sleepstreet are the bicycles we have in our heads and are the bicycles we love to see in every street.” I’m already a big fan of their bikes!!

It’s been a while that a fixie passed our camera’s, so we’re happy this guy showed up. A beautiful fixie combined with a pair of cool sneakers.

Another photo from the street shoot we did for The Bulletin (see previous post). This dapper chap was walking to the bike shop with his sweet fixie on his shoulder. It wazs the victim of vandalism and the rear wheel was busted.
After this photo I asked him if incidents like this would keep him from riding. His answer was clear and simple: ‘No way’.

Old news but nevertheless quite impressive… As far as I know this is the most expensive bicycle in the world. There are only 10 of these bikes on this planet. Each one of them have been hand-built and then plated with 24-carat gold generously adorned with more than 600 fine Swarovski crystals. Pricetag: € 80000.

See Auromania for more info.

Ace of Hearts

This is the third fixie I see in Kortrijk but I presume there are more. Somehow I’m always surprised when I see one.
In this case I even went up to the guys and asked if they wouldn’t mind if I took some pictures. This way I could make a nice close up of the playing card in the back wheel. Anyone knows the meaning of these cards?

So I got off the tram at the Groenplaats and arrived in the Kammenstraat, the heart of fashion in Antwerp. I was taking my cam out of its secure hiding place when all of the sudden I see this fixie rider approaching me. I turn my cam on and start shooting but then I notice my cam is not in auto-focus mode. So I ended up with a lot of unsharp pictures. This is the only sharp one, I swear I didn’t focus on his butt.

A little bit of air…

…sur terre. Lacoste drops a couple of classy fixies – or so it seems – in their new fashion campaign. Bicycles = oxygen. All in good style.
At this point we’re actually getting curious as to what fashion brand hasn’t used a bicycle in their promotion yet. And if that means that they missed out on the trend.
Anyone?
