Before winter took over

A couple of grainy shots by our friend Erik Daems from Leuven, from a while back, before King Winter decided to take over.

Love her little old bike.

Snow struggle

And sometimes you have to step down for a bit, cause things are getting really rough. But even then, elegance conquers all.

… and snow in Leuven

Everything is better if you share it with a friend, even riding your bike in harsh winter conditions. But even with all the snow, these girls keep a smile on their face.

Lovely photo sent to us by reader Peter Papics.

Student life = good life

After the warm-up month of October, it is clear to see that student life is blooming more than ever.

October

Erik Daems, our funky friend in Leuven, sent us some new photos and added a little contemplation: ‘October is the month that brings us darker and colder weather, so scarfs and jackets suddenly appear. October also brings Leuven lots of students, with their combination of old bikes and big new locks.’

I truely love the bike and the whole look of this next girl. The look of concentration on her face – and trust me, you need to focus in Leuven – is simply the cutest.

And the gents? Well they got to work hard to try and keep up with all the cycle chic ladies in Leuven.

16.500

Fall is here. And it’s raining hard today.

Good news though: yesterday Bond Beter Leefmilieu sent out a press release about the results of their Met Belgerinkel naar de Winkel- campaign, or Ring your Bicycle Bell to the Shop – the reason we started this blog in the first place.

As you may or may not remember, this pannier was the center of the campaign: smile + bike

People who participated in the campaign could save for this exclusive pannier, designed by fashiondesigner Walter Van Beirendonck.

The results: from May 16 ’till June 20 no less than 175.000 people rode their bicycle to the shop and an absolutely smashing 16.500 – I repeat 16.500! – panniers were ordered. That, ladies and gents, is a hell of a lot.

We’d like to thank you very much for participating and giving cycling as a normal everyday habit the good name it deserves.

We are looking forward to seeing all of these 16.500 pannier in the city streets!

Missed out on one? Don’t worry, next year there’s gonna be a new Belgerinkel-campaign, but as you will understand, we can’t spill all the goods just yet.

Untill then, and even though it’s fall, just put on a smile and go out and ride to get your daily groceries. Just like this wonderful woman, captured by our good old buddy Wouter.

UPDATE: As you can read in the comments below, our stunningly cycle chic friend txell from Barcelona spotted one of our panniers at the Cycle Tourism Congress in Costa Brava.
