Brussels II

Another photo from the street shoot we did for The Bulletin (see previous post). This dapper chap was walking to the bike shop with his sweet fixie on his shoulder. It wazs the victim of vandalism and the rear wheel was busted.
After this photo I asked him if incidents like this would keep him from riding. His answer was clear and simple: ‘No way’.

The National
Posted by Stefan | Filed under music, video
Ever since I heard their new album High Violet, The National is my favourite band. Earlier albums such as Boxer and Alligator had already put them very hig on my list, but their latest effort has put the band from Brooklyn on top.
Today, while surfing around Youtube to find a video of England, my favourite song on High Violet, I found one that included some bits from a band photoshoot they did in a park. Now you’ve all seen these band promo shots in parks. Photographers put band members in trees, on benches, on swings, or they make them do funny or other stuff.
Same here. But what spies my little eye? A yellow bicycle, brought into play as the ultimate photoshoot accessory. Matt Beringer looking tight and cool in black on a yellow bike. Of course! We’ve seen them a gazillion times in fashion shoots. And here’s one of the first I’ve seen in band shoots.
I can’t seem to think of any other examples, but if you happen to know some, do give us a link.
Meanwhile, here are some stills from the video, and you can find the video below. Do watch it and embrace The National.

And the complete video, with an amazing live version of England. One to drown in:

To spring or not to spring?
Posted by Stijn | Filed under Ghent
So fellow blogger Stefan wrote me this mail about spring being here and no more scarfs in pictures, etc.
OK, but if only this wasn’t Belgium and the weather is constantly evolving from hot to cold and back again.
Today I was in Ghent and I really wanted to take pictures of skirts, T-shirts, short trousers, sandals, etc…
I hope, Stefan, that this will do the trick as well…

‘Casual’ parking
Posted by Stefan | Filed under Antwerp, marketing
So here’s question for you all from the ever so lovely mrs Kris. Which pub would have the highest return on investment? The casually parked bike or the ridiculously expensive banners from S. Olliver and The Phone House in the air?

If you’re a regular visitor of this blog, you’ve most likely noticed this video (see the right column, below):
ORANGE BIKES TAKE MANHATTAN from Kalim Armstrong on Vimeo.
Fact is, good ideas have no copyright protection, so they easily get ‘borrowed’. Especially if they originated somewhere abroad. Nothing wrong with that, if you can add something creative to it. Planned or by surprise.
What these guys don’t have is the potential of controversy like DKNY had in Manhattan. Also, the Discostore signs make it too obvious. There is no mystery to these yellow bikes at all.
Now they are just fun to look at. Nothing more.
Either way the funky bike doesn’t impress the man in black.

And so mrs Kris’ question remains in the open.

Lock your pack and cover your saddle
Posted by Stefan | Filed under Antwerp
Antwerp is representing, this time thanks to the lovely ms Kris. She snapped a couple of shots yesterday. A lot of things to notice in this first one. Is your lock too big to hang around your bike? Lock up your backpack. That simple. And though we digg folding bikes, it does take an extra effort from the owner to make ‘em look really good. Sweet shoes, for example.
And we always knew traffic lights served a good purpose.

A lot of black, red and yellow in this second one. We wouldn’t mind riding with this crowd. As for the plastic bag saddle cover, though, we would like to suggest a great alternative.

And Kris finishes of with a shot from a couple of weeks ago, but it is too good not to post. And this one needs no words. Other than that she absolutely rocks.
